Bitcoin.com Wallet Adds UAE-Regulated USDU Stablecoin for Enhanced Transparency

The token, issued by Universal Digital Intl. Limited under the Abu Dhabi Global Market framework and registered with the Central Bank of the UAE as a Foreign Payment Token, now reaches the wallet's multi-million user base as an ERC-20 on Ethereum. Distribution surface expands; token supply is unchanged.

Reserve structure and collateralization

Universal Digital Intl. Limited operates from the Abu Dhabi Global Market and falls under the Financial Services Regulatory Authority for the distribution of Fiat-Referenced Tokens to professional clients. The issuer additionally holds registration with the Central Bank of the UAE under the country's Payment Token Services Regulation. USDU launched in January as the first U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin to receive that Central Bank registration.

Each USDU is collateralized 1:1 against liquid U.S. dollar reserves held at regulated UAE banks, including Emirates NBD, Mashreq, and Mbank. A third-party accounting firm independently attests the reserves on a monthly basis, with reports published by the issuer for public review. Bitcoin.com CEO Corbin Fraser flagged the attestation cadence as a selection driver: "People shouldn't need to be forensic accountants to know what backs the stablecoin they hold," Fraser said. "USDU's registration with the UAE central bank and monthly attested 1:1 reserves mean users can verify the backing instead of trusting a logo."

Distribution mechanics

The wallet deployment covers web and mobile, with users retaining custody of private keys throughout. Launch-phase functionality includes hold, send, and receive. Swap and buy-and-sell modules are gated on third-party provider integration, with no disclosed timetable. Universal and Bitcoin.com have flagged planned payment rails between users and merchants on the platform.

Universal Senior Executive Officer Juha Viitala framed the pairing as a usability test for the regulatory perimeter: "Good standards only matter if people can actually use them," Viitala said, pointing to the public attestation cadence as part of the user-facing layer rather than a back-office artifact.

Systemic read

The transaction flow is clean: an ADGM-regulated issuer with Central Bank registration meets a non-custodial wallet already serving a large retail base. Liquidity delta is distribution-led rather than supply-led. Peg stability remains the variable to monitor as accessible surface area scales. Jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction availability will bound realized utility, and additional wallet features remain contingent on third-party rails. Reserve transparency frameworks of the type catalogued in Analyzing Tokenomics: A Deep Dive Into Current Crypto Presale Structures are now a baseline expectation for regulated issuers reaching mainstream wallets.
